McKenzie Families, In anticipation of full federal and state approval for Pfizer pediatric COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years of age, Lane County Public Health is announcing information for parents and guardians. Over the past few months, Lane County has been working with local pediatric and family care practices, pharmacies, community-based organizations, and schools to develop a comprehensive strategy to meet the demand for pediatric vaccinations in the first few weeks of availability. LCPH estimates that Lane County is home to approximately 25,000 children aged 5 to 11. While national surveys suggest that about one-third of parents will seek vaccinations for newly eligible children as soon as possible, the Lane County pediatric partnership has developed the capacity to meet a demand of 40% (approximately 10,000 kids) within the first several weeks of eligibility. Lane County has designed multiple clinic models to meet individual needs: Indoor clinics at the Lane Events Center Auditorium will ultimately have the capacity for over 400 children per day. School-based clinics in partnership with Lane Education Services District and Lane County’s 16 school districts operating in the afternoons and evenings following regular school dismissal. Community-led pediatric clinics in partnership with our community-based organization partners to ensure vaccine equity. Effective November 9th, all LCPH clinics will be by appointment. The scheduling tool is now live. Click here for more details: https://conta.cc/3qbPIk0

MRCS families: As you may have noticed, it was really dark this morning. Daylight savings ends Sunday, 11/7, and it will be darker longer in the am hours. Clocks go back 1 hour. Please make sure your student is standing back from the white line when waiting for the bus, have a light pointed at the ground so the bus driver can see them. Thank you for your assistance getting students to school safely!

Student Half Day 10/21/2021
McKenzie Families, Each year, we come together as a community to celebrate the beginning of the school year, as well as the unique partnerships and resources available to our students and families. We break bread together, connect with old friends, make new ones, and then tour the school and classrooms to see the learnings that have happened thus far in the year. Due to COVID-19, we were forced to move this celebration of the McKenzie community online. Although We Are McKenzie Night may look a bit different than years past, we hope to continue the celebration of our incredible community and school virtually. Please see below our schedule and connectivity info for our sessions! Go Eagles! Mr. Tompkins Click here for the full schedule: https://conta.cc/2Z2Enb6

Open House Changes
The 2021-2022 school year is off to a strong start with the return of our full-length day after the transitions and sacrifices of last year's Comprehensive Distance Learning and abbreviated return to campus to end last year. A great deal of thanks is due to our families, staff and students for their flexibility and creativity navigating COVID and the Holiday Farm Fire! You are what makes McKenzie the special place it is! Our team is truly grateful for our students, staff and community. Many parents and community members requested more communication from the school this year, so we are bringing back the "From Mr. Tompkins' Desk" Blog. Mr. Tompkins hopes this additional line of communication is worthwhile and helps close the information gap that some of our McKenzie community is feeling. It is also his hope that this blog can be another avenue to communicate our theme of Gratitude this school year. McKenzie students and staff will be taking time each day to demonstrate gratitude for all we have. Studies show that sharing gratitude increases happiness in both the person giving gratitude as well as those receiving it. After the year and a half we've had as a school and community, who couldn't use a little bit more happiness? We are truly grateful for our students, staff and community members!
