During their June meeting, the McKenzie School District Board of Directors formally adopted the calendar for the 2025–26 school year, and there are a few key changes families should know about.
This year’s calendar includes a shift from 149 to 144 instructional days. By removing Thursday early release days, the district was able to make this change without significantly affecting classroom learning time.
Professional development for staff will now happen on select Fridays. Five of those days are aligned with neighboring districts to allow for shared training opportunities supported by Lane ESD.
Another important update: students will no longer attend school on Fridays. Past practice was to have students attend on Fridays when there was a Monday holiday, this caused confusion for many students and families. This change aims to provide a more consistent and predictable schedule for families.
Thanksgiving break has been extended to a full week, and the last day of school will be in the first week of June, about a week earlier than in previous years.
The full calendar is now available on the district website under the 2025–26 District Calendar button.

Our 4th Quarter Awards Assembly, Kindergarten Graduation, and 6th Grade Promotion were full of joy and pride.
It’s always bittersweet to see our students reach these milestones, but we couldn't be more proud of their hard work and accomplishments.
Here's to the memories made and the bright future ahead for all our students!

🎉 Classroom Curiosity: Field Day Fun!
Earlier this week, our students celebrated with a Field Day full of games, laughter, and teamwork from relay races to a 400M dash that even included staff and high school helpers!
As we close out the school year, we want to wish all our McKenzie families a fun, safe, and restful summer. 💚
Thank you for a wonderful year.

🎨 Classroom Curiosity
Our first graders are kicking off the final week of school with a paint party celebration
It’s a colorful way to wrap up an amazing year of learning, creativity, and fun.
Check out the smiles, splatters, and masterpieces in the making!

Classroom Curiosity
Last week, our Kindergarten class celebrated earning 20 Class Acts, a big milestone!
Class Acts are awarded when an entire class shows kindness, respect, and great listening skills. Whether it's following directions or being courteous, our youngest learners are showing what it means to be a team.
Way to go, Kindergarten! Keep up the great work!

Classroom Curiosity
As part of this year’s life cycles project, Ms. Xochilt’s Kindergarten class got to witness something truly special: 9 out of 12 eggs successfully hatched right in the classroom!
The chicks have now gone off to their forever homes, but the lessons and excitement will stick with us for a long time.

Classroom Curiosity
Our 1st graders became shadow scientists this week!
They explored sun patterns and shadows by tracing each other’s outlines, then completing fun tasks like:
Patting a shadow’s head
Jumping over a friend’s shadow
Hiding in a shadow
Finding shadows on the playground
To wrap it all up, they stood in the same spots in the early and later afternoon to see how their shadows changed, proving how the sun moves across the sky!

Classroom Curiosity
Our students hit the court for our basketball fundamentals camp!
The camp focused on teamwork, skill-building, and confidence
